What is an Energy Recovery Facility?

The key function of an Energy Recovery Facility is to safely treat waste left over after recycling and to put this waste to good use in accordance with the waste hierarchy.

The Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility will safely treat around 450,000 tonnes of residual waste per year and turn it into electricity to power homes and business across the region.

ERF facilities are a more sustainable and preferable alternative to landfill.
