Waste workers and their families qualify for Covid-19 testing

Waste workers and their families are eligible for Covid-19 testing, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced.

Government designated 'key workers' in England, such as those working on the frontline for Viridor, will be offered the Coronavirus test to help them continue to carry out their roles safely.

The offer will also be extended to family members and members of key workers' households.

The tests are intended for those who show symptoms of the virus.

The test involves taking a swab of the nose and back of the throat, the Department of Health and Social Care has said.

The Government is aiming to open 50 drive-through test centres across the country by the end of April.

A limited number of home kits will also be made available.

The Welsh Government says it will also expand testing beyond NHS staff, while Scotland is continuing to prioritise NHS staff and has not yet announced any plans to expand testing.
