Every day we take what British homes and businesses throw away and transform it into essential quality materials, resources and energy for customers across the UK and globally.
Working in partnership with more than 150 local authority and major corporate clients with 32,000 customers across the UK, we have the UK’s largest network of 300+ advanced recycling, energy recovery and landfill diversion facilities with a waste collection service of 600+ vehicles.
As a business we embody the circular economy, managing seven million tonnes of recyclates and resources each year with 1.4 million tonnes of recyclate traded. As a founding signatory to the UK Plastics Pact, we are focused on supporting manufacturers and brands to reduce their reliance on virgin plastic and operate the most sophisticated plastic recycling and reprocessing plants in the country.
The company has ten Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs) in operation, and one under construction, maximising resource efficiency from non recyclable waste. In 2018/19, we received 6.8 million tonnes of residual waste (including joint venture facilities), producing 2,694 GWh electricity, enough to power 738,000 homes.
As one of the UK’s largest independent power generators from waste with 287 megawatts (MW) of operating capacity from ERFs, anaerobic digestion, solar and landfill gas (including joint ventures) we exported 1.5 terawatt hours of power during the 2018/19 year.
We have over 3,000 highly trained people working for us, providing apprenticeships, graduate roles and management training schemes to develop and nurture skills.
We work closely with the communities in which we operate through our Customer Liaison Groups. We also provide 11 educational centres across the UK, fund and work with community project partners and offer a variety of charitable donation schemes.
Our commitment to Sustainability is reinforced through our membership of the Green Alliance Circular Economy Task Force, the Slave-Free Alliance and the All-Party Sustainable Resources Group.
Above all we actively promote a culture of health, safety and well-being through our HomeSafe programme, focused on ensuring everyone gets home safely at the end of the day.
