People -Powered Progress: ESG in Action

Today, we launch our Viridor FY25 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, showcasing the progress made against our ESG strategy, launched in 2022.
Over the past three years, ESG has become deeply embedded within our commercial strategy and we are proud of what our team achieved in FY25. Some of the highlights include:
- A comprehensive and robust Climate Change Adaptation Plan (CCAP) assessment was carried out across the portfolio – the results of which will inform our FY26 refreshed ESG strategy.
- In our first year participating, Viridor achieved an EcoVadis Silver medal – a rating which reflects the strength of Viridor’s sustainability management system and ongoing commitment to responsible business practices, and places us in the top 15% of assessed companies globally.
- Through our WeShare Community Fund, and WeShare Match Fund we supported over 100 charities, community organisations and schools across the UK and overall invested almost £1.5 million in the communities local to our sites.
- Aligned with our vision to become a climate positive waste and recycling company by 2045, in FY25, we diverted 3.4m tonnes of non-recycled waste from landfill, serving the equivalent of 16 million people.
As we reflect on a year of continued progress, we also remain focused on developing our strategy further to meet our sector’s growing and evolving demands. We will publish a refreshed three-year ESG strategy in FY26 – shaped by our colleagues’ insights as well as those of our communities, stakeholders and partners.
As our CEO, Kevin Bradshaw says: “The credit for Viridor’s success rests with our colleagues throughout the business. I regularly see examples of how they live Viridor's values, rising to the challenge, believing in each other and bringing their ambition, skills and resourcefulness to every situation. It is thanks to them that we are successfully building a world where nothing goes to waste.”
In our new ESG strategy we will continue to focus on our ambition to support the UK’s transition to net zero by 2050. We will achieve this by leading the sector’s decarbonisation efforts and by promoting the circular economy through our ongoing work at our Quantafuel Skive site in Denmark.
