Richard Belfield, Business Development Director

Richard has executive responsibility for the development of all new infrastructure and business growth across the Viridor Group portfolio, including energy recovery facilities, decarbonisation, energy utilisation and production, heat offtake and private wire, new technologies development, residues disposal, and polymer extraction and reprocessing.

He is a chartered engineer (civil) and has over 25 years of experience in the development and financing of municipal and commercial infrastructure, including water supply, wastewater and solid waste treatment facilities in the UK, Europe, Asia, Middle East and Australia.

Richard has previously worked in similar roles with Veolia, Lincolnshire County Council, FCC and Hitachi Zosen Inova. Notable successes being the financial closure of first of their kind projects, for Lincolnshire County Council (150ktpa ERF fully funded by Local Authority), South Korea Waste Water Treatment Concession (first foreign investment in a municipal utilities contract), the financial closure of three UK PPP ERFs (Buckinghamshire, Herefordshire and Edinburgh), the first merchant BOO Biomethane AD facility in Sweden (Jonkoping), the first merchant ERF in Australia (Perth, 300ktpa) and the worlds largest project financed ERF in Dubai (1.8 million tpa).
