Viridor and Somerset West and Taunton Council celebrate Cricket World Cup

04th June 2019

Viridor and Somerset West and Taunton Council are looking to bowl over cricket fans with an eye-catching piece of original artwork which sends a powerful messaging on recycling and sustainability.

The 12m x 6m mural which appears on Viridor’s headquarters in Taunton has been produced by local artist Sam Gaden, of   Aerosol Art. Sam produced the highly praised art for Taunton’s remembrance wall in November.

The Viridor House image features Taunton landmarks and shows a cricketer batting   a plastic bottle into a recycling box, emphasising Viridor’s Right Stuff Right Bin message which highlights to residents that correctly sorting   recycling is the best way to boost recycling rates.

Deputy leader of Somerset West and Taunton Council, Cllr Benet Allen said: “The summer colours brighten up the Town with a clear   message about two of Taunton’s strengths, cricket and recycling. All the same, I’m sure that bottle was used for plenty of tap water refills before being recycled.”

Viridor Managing Director Phil Piddington said: “The company was delighted to work   with the council, sharing in the Cricket World Cup excitement while emphasising how everyone has a role to play to increase recycling.”

Phil commented: “This is an exciting time for everyone who, like Viridor, calls   Taunton home. We welcomed the opportunity to work with the council on   tailoring this striking artwork to underline a vital environmental message.   Residents and visitors can help Viridor to increase recycling and put   material back into the circular economy and out of the natural environment. That’s what this impressive artwork aims to reflect.”

In   June, Somerset’s County Ground will be hosting three international games,   Afghanistan-New Zealand on 8 June; Pakistan-Australia on 12 June and   Bangladesh-West Indies on 17 June. All three games will be televised around   the world reaching nearly 2 billion people globally.
