Viridor employee remembered with Taunton cancer hospital donation
14th February 2018
A Viridor employee has been remembered by the Taunton-based company and the town’s Rotary Club with a £1,000 donation to a vital cancer service.
The donation, made by the Rotary Club of Taunton, is the result of an ongoing fundraising partnership with Viridor spanning five years.
On weekend cricket days, Viridor offers the Rotary Club use of the head office car park as a fundraising opportunity, increasing parking on busy match days. This has contributed £15,000 to much-needed funds since 2014.
Roger Priest, President of the Rotary Club Taunton, said: “I think this is a wonderful demonstration of Viridor and the Rotary Club of Taunton working together for the benefit of the local community. It shows how a local business can deliver on social responsibility in a simple effective manner and I thank Viridor for their foresight and contribution to the community.”
Mike Hellings, a Rotary Club member and former Viridor Managing Director, said: “It is very pleasing to see that Viridor still has an appetite to support local community interests, and this time remembers a long-serving colleague.”
Tina Vickery was a dedicated and popular Viridor employee for more than 15 years. The donation pays tribute to the support the Beacon Centre at the Taunton Musgrove Park Hospital provided Tina.
Nick Wilson, a colleague of Tina, described her as a “wonderful person” with “a great sense of humour who was liked by all”.
He added: “Tina was always happy to help others. When I first joined the accounts payable team, Tina was always on hand to help and make me feel welcome – for that I’ll always be grateful. She will be greatly missed by everyone at Viridor.”
