Viridor to host two job fairs in Dunbar
24th February 2017
Viridor, Scotland’s leading recycling and renewable energy company, is holding two job fairs in Dunbar next week to discuss employment opportunities at its new £177m energy recovery facility near the town.
Both events will be held at the Hallhill Centre in Dunbar – on Monday 27 February from 10am – 2pm and on Tuesday 28 February from 4pm – 8pm.
Part of a £500m Scottish investment programme in ‘next generation’ recycling and renewable energy infrastructure, the ERF is based at Viridor’s existing rail-linked Dunbar waste treatment hub in East Lothian. The facility is due for completion in December 2017.
The events aim to offer an insight into the range of professional, skilled and operational roles available as the ERF draws nearer to completion.
Katie Colquhoun, Community Benefits Officer for Viridor, said:
“We’re delighted to be hosting these job fairs in Dunbar. The ERF is a strategically important project and is integral to the Scottish Government’s ambitions to deliver a zero waste, circular economy which encourages waste reduction, boosts recycling and recovers vital renewable energy from what remains. We look forward to sharing the exciting opportunities on offer at the ERF to local people.”
Once operational the site will deliver a 300,000 tonnes per annum ERF which will divert post-recycling ‘residual’ waste from landfill and contribute to Scottish energy security. The site will also generate 30MW of base-load renewable energy direct to the grid – the equivalent of 39 wind turbines – enough to continuously power 39,000 homes. It will also offer up to 10MW of heat available for local use.
