Viridor backs Bargeddie good causes

Scotland’s leading recycler, Viridor, has this week announced its support to a number of good causes within the Bargeddie area with a bumper boost for the community’s youngsters.

The company, which is currently investing £22m in its advanced recycling hub at Bargeddie, North Lanarkshire, has backed local football team the Bargeddie Colts, Shining Starts Additional Support Needs Theatre School and Drumpark Additional Support Needs School through combined sponsorships of over £5,000.

MSP Fulton MacGregor and local councillor Kevin Docherty joined children, parents, and partners from the three groups to celebrate this latest commitment to the community with the staff from Viridor’s Bargeddie site.

In addition to sponsorship of the Bargeddie Colts, Viridor chose Shining Stars as a result of a health and safety initiative which rewards local good causes as a result of safe site practices by staff. The donation to Drumpark School was raised by site staff following a month of health and wellbeing initiative’s including a staff cycle which saw teams cycle the equivalent of John O Groats to Lands’ End.

The company also operates their flagship GO4SET (science, engineering and technology) education initiative with the Engineering Development Trust in the local schools.

MSP Fulton MacGregor said:

“The support that these good causes will receive will be incredibly valuable and will benefit so many young people in the area.”

Local councillor, Kevin Docherty, added:

“All of the groups Viridor has chosen to partner with are so important within the Bargeddie and Coatbridge area and provide a great deal of support to local families.

“They are thrilled that the company is helping them in this way and they are extremely grateful to them.”
