Viridor supports East Lothian Council unsung heroes
19th November 2015
Viridor, the recycling, resources and distributed energy company developing a £177m energy recovery facility (ERF) at Dunbar, East Lothian, last night (12th November) presented the East Lothian Council ‘Unsung Hero’ Star Award to Keith Christie of the council’s outdoor education team.
As part of a community sponsorship programme which includes flagship GO4SET education partnership with the Engineering Development Trust, Dunbar SciFest, Dunbar RNLI Day and Innerwick Show, Viridor once again supported the prestigious East Lothian Council STAR Awards.
The STAR Awards celebrate the achievements of East Lothian Council employees who have gone the extra mile to carry out their work and have been nominated by members of the public and colleagues. The STAR Awards also recognise the commitment of employees through long service awards.
From around 200 nominations a board of judges had the difficult job of whittling them down to 31 finalists in 11 categories who attended the award ceremony.
Speaking at the beginning of the awards, Angela Leitch, Chief Executive of East Lothian Council, said:
“I think that our workforce is flexible, innovative and really interested in working in partnership with colleagues in other parts of the council to find new ways of delivering services. We understand the benefits and insights that colleagues from other areas can bring to the table.
“The same applies for partnership working. We have worked in partnership with health, the police, the voluntary and the private sector for a number of years now, and the key thing about partnership working is that it is successful. Working together helps us to deliver much better results for communities and individual people. So, thank you to our partners and our staff for continuing to deliver first-class services and support to the people of East Lothian.”
Presenting the ‘Unsung Hero’ award, Hugh Booth, Viridor’s Public Sector Commercial Manager, said:
“Viridor has a strong legacy of partnership working with East Lothian Council, its staff and community stakeholders. Together we’re working hard to deliver a cleaner, greener, more sustainable local economy. To that end we’re delighted to celebrate the very best in public service and to recognise, in Keith, one of the council’s real unsung heroes.”
- Winner Keith Christie, Outdoor Education
