Viridor driving Mission Christmas

11th December 2015

Trafford based staff from Viridor, a leading UK recycling and renewable energy company will be busy collecting donated toys from Greater Manchester residents from over 300 locations to support Key 103’s Cash for Kids, Mission Christmas campaign. The donated toys will ensure over 30,000 Greater Manchester children living in poverty get to open a gift on Christmas Day.

The campaign is aiming to collect over one million pounds worth of toys by asking people to buy one extra present during their Christmas shop, a gift that will make Christmas special for a child living in poverty. Mission Christmas is looking for new, unwrapped gifts suitable for babies, toddlers, children and teenagers aged 0 to 18 years. You can donate at one of hundreds of drop-off points across Greater Manchester including thousands of local businesses.

Viridor has supported Mission Christmas since 2010 and last year, with Viridor’s assistance, Key 103 helped support 363 local children’s organisations including social services, NSPCC and Barnardos. 36,277 children received a gift on Christmas day who would otherwise not have received gifts as Christmas is a luxury their families cannot afford.

Richard Jenkins, Viridor’s Regional Managing Director for the North said “We are hoping we can help Mission Christmas and Key 103 collect even more toys this year. Every toy donated counts and it is our privilege to use our experience in collection services to continue to support this fantastic local campaign. As part of a Health and Safety scheme our staff members have raised £570 for the Mission.”

“We want to thank all the people of Greater Manchester who generously give out of their own pockets and we wish all involved a very merry Christmas.”

Russell Feingold, Key 103’s Cash for Kids Charity Manager, added “We want to help bring the magic of Christmas to tens of thousands of local children living in poverty. This year we want to help even more underprivileged children in our city, and that’s why we are grateful to all the companies like Viridor who are the power behind the Mission, the commitment and support that Viridor offer is invaluable.”
