Community Partnerships

Building strong links with the communities is a key aspect of how we do business. We operate community liason groups at all of our Energy Recovery Facilities to engage with the local communities and provide a variety of community benefits from charitable giving, education and community partnerships.

Somerset Wildlife Trust -

Somerset Wildlife Trust (SWT) was formed in 1964. It is the largest voluntary organisation dedicated to wildlife conservation in Somerset. In 2014 they celebrated their 50th Anniversary, and also celebrated achieving 19,000 members, 400 regular volunteers and managing 72 nature reserves covering 1,720 hectares. Somerset Wildlife Trust spend on average £2,500,000 annually on nature conservation in the county.

Viridor is a corporate partner to SWT, supporting some of their showcase projects in and around Taunton.  We also partnered with SWT on ‘Big Taunton Litter Pick’ along the River Tone to help clear up the town to make it a cleaner place for both people and wildlife.

Carymoor -

Carymoor Environmental Trust is an environmental education and nature conservation charity, providing outdoor learning for school and community groups. This centre is located near the active landfill site Dimmer, near Castle Cary.

Through their education programmes and demonstrations of recycling and best practice waste management, habitat stewardship, renewable energy and sustainable buildings, the centre has developed a reputation that exemplifies environmental good practice.

Go4SET -

We are engaging a generation of young Scots through our innovative GO4SET partnership with the Engineering Development Trust (EDT). We have linked-up with EDT to boost opportunities for hundreds of Scottish S2 (Year 8/9) school pupils each year.

The scheme links schools with industry and academia in an engaging ten-week programme to offer pupils a real insight into STEM subjects, environmental challenges, industry and academia and encourages smart school subject choices at a critical path.
