Ending landfill in Scotland takes a step closer as Viridor and Equitix join forces to build new Scottish Energy recovery facility

- Leading waste management company Viridor and infrastructure investor Equitix announce joint venture to complete a new Scottish energy recovery facility which will start diverting household waste from landfill from 2025.
- The facility will divert 238,000 tonnes of waste per annum from landfill reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40%.
- Energy generated from the facility will power the equivalent of c. 55,000 Scottish homes.
- The facility is located close to the Scottish carbon capture cluster, opening the possibility for future carbon capture at the site, aligned with Viridor’s commitment to be net zero by 2040.
