Viridor continues to help local stars to shine
16th March 2018
After pledging its support to local charity Shining Stars ASN Theatre School, Viridor, Scotland’s leading recycling and renewable energy company, has held its first dedicated fundraising event in aid of the organisation.
Staff at Viridor’s Bargeddie site, which is close to where the charity is based, organised a family race night to raise much-needed funds. The evening, which took place on Friday 23 February with 80 staff attending, raised a phenomenal £4,000 and follows on from the funding the charity received from Viridor in 2017.
Shining Stars ASN Theatre School is a facility for children and young adults with additional support needs. The needs range from mild to moderate to severe and complex. The group help these children fulfil their potential and aims to bring out the best in the young people through drama, movement and working on their social skills.
John Templeton, Logistics Unit Manager at Viridor, said: “Viridor is committed to do all that we can to support the local communities in which we work and we are thrilled our first fundraising event for Shining Stars was so successful.
“Everyone who took part had a brilliant night raising funds that will make a huge difference to the children and young adults at Shining Stars. It really is such a worthwhile charity as they do so much to help those with support needs. We are very much looking forward to running more events throughout the year and continuing with our fundraising efforts.”
Katie Slavin, from Shining Stars ASN Theatre School, said: “We couldn’t be more grateful of the support given to us by Viridor and this race night was a fantastic way to kick off what I’m sure will be a fantastic year of fundraising by the company.
“It was a fantastic way of bringing the local community together and to raise awareness of the theatre school.”
