Reuse Shop celebrates one-year success
19th November 2014
The Reuse Shop at Viridor’s Priorswood Recycling Centre, Taunton, Somerset is celebrating a year of growing success.
Launched on 14 November 2013 and open seven days a week 8am-4pm, the Reuse Shop sells items that would otherwise be put into the HWRC skips going for recycling or landfill.
In all, 119 tonnes of goods have gone through the Reuse Shop, with tens of thousands of items, from bric-a-brac to DIY and garden tools, ornamental and terracotta pots to kitchen pots and pans, crockery and glassware to toys and games, as well as CDs, records, DVDs and books.
In the 12 months, the shop has handled 537 bicycles, 170 doors, 98 filing cabinets, 85 gates, 76 garden loungers, 51 lawnmowers, 50 ladders, 36 strimmers, 35 wheelbarrows, 21 barbeques, 31 suitcases and trunks, and two manual sewing machines.
Created in partnership with Somerset Waste Partnership and an experienced local trader, the shop covers its own costs while making a small surplus that will go into waste minimisation projects in the county.
