Recycling Steel and Aluminium saves up to 95% of the energy required to produce metals from raw material. With each tonne of Aluminium recycled, industrial consumption is reduced by 9 tonnes in CO2 emissions and 4 tonnes of bauxite – the raw material from which aluminium is made. This has clear environmental benefits and as such we are committed to maximising recycling, decreasing dependency on virgin materials and lowering our carbon footprint.
Our continued investment and commitment to the metals recycling sector has meant that we have a significant share of the UK recovered metals market and are widely recognised as a high-quality supplier helping to support the UK steel manufacturing market.
Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals are recovered from our 16 materials recycling facilities (MRFs) plants across the UK. These sites take in comingled materials from local authorities and/or Commercial & Industrial customers and sort the material into high-quality individual metal grades ready for use in industry.
We operate ten Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs) across the UK with a further one in development. These facilities treat general non-recyclable waste, using overhead magnets and IBA extraction technology to extract Ferrous and Non-Ferrous materials from the residual ash waste stream ready to be supplied back into industry.
In addition to these sites, we also operate two dedicated WEEE (electrical) sorting facilities in Perth, Scotland and St Helens, North England. These sites take in a range of electrical items from commercial and industrial collections and strip and sort the material into high quality, individual stream end products. These facilities are unique and crucial to WEEE recycling capacity in their respective regions, capturing metals in the process.
Our recycling strategy is simple: Quality, Quality, Quality
Quality control underpins what we do. Every Viridor facility is accredited to ISO9001:2015 and quality assurance processes are in place in order to ensure that each load leaving the site meets the highest quality specifications, together with the regulatory requirements for materials movements in the UK and overseas. Viridor Resource Management is operates as the in-house broker for Viridor and is the holder of the metal broker licences which underpin the regulatory requirements for all our metal movements.
