In general, any material which is discarded or thrown away is classed as waste.

Significant amounts, whether it is paper for recycling, detritus from the kitchen or waste from manufacturing are legally classed as ‘Controlled Wastes’ and their movements are subject to strict controls through ‘Duty of Care’ legislation.
