Viridor is proposing to build an 85,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) Energy from Waste facility (EfW), close to the Peterborough Power Station in Fengate. The EfW will provide Peterborough City Council and businesses with a safe and cost-effective alternative to landfill. The plant will accept primarily Peterborough’s waste as well as non-hazardous, post-recycling waste from businesses throughout the contract life.

Peterborough City Council obtained planning permission in May 2010 for a 65,000 tpa EfW facility and now Viridor has submitted a Section 73 planning application to make changes to it. Key changes include a significant reduction (around 40%) to the physical size of the facility and an increase in throughput to 85,000 tpa.
