Public Consultation in Lostock Gralam

Posted 1 Oct 2010

As part of Viridor’s on-going public consultation concerning the proposed Lostock Works waste treatment facility, a public consultation will be held at Lostock Sport and Social Club between 4pm and 8pm on Monday 11th October 2010.

Letters will be sent out shortly to all local residents to invite them to the consultation, and all interested parties are welcome to attend.

Viridor’s proposal is for a Mechanical and Biological Treatment (MBT) facility that will safely treat residual waste and provide a source of solid recovered fuel that can be used to generate electricity at the nearby Runcorn combined heat and power plant, currently under construction. The revised planning application includes a scaled down facility, which will treat 200,000 tonnes of residual waste per annum, as opposed to the original 250,000 tonnes per annum applied for in 2009. This will remove any concerns over creating excess treatment capacity, and will further reduce the potential impacts on local highways.

As a part of the revised planning application, Viridor has continued dialogue with local stakeholders and members of the community. By way of this consultation, we have become aware that there is some confusion with regards to the various waste treatment facilities currently in the planning or construction stages within the Cheshire area and will thus be inviting local interested parties to join us in an informal setting to discuss our proposals.

On the 11th October, members of the planning team will be available to answer any questions that residents may have with regards to the proposed facility. Residents who are not available to attend on the day are asked to contact Hannah Kirkpatrick on hkirkpatrick@viridor.co.uk for further information.
