At the end of last month, Viridor received confirmation that its application for variation of the environmental permit for its Ardley landfill site near Bicester in Oxfordshire has been granted by the Environment Agency.
Speaking about the new environmental permit, Jon Miers, Viridor environmental projects manager, said: “We welcome the Environment Agency’s decision to approve the variation which brings monitoring of operations to the most up to date regulatory requirements. The changes will result in a more focused approach to the environmental management of the site.”
The permit variation also allows for recycling operations to be conducted on site. This will result in up to 5,000 tonnes of waste from businesses diverted from landfill every year.
Leading recycling, renewable energy and waste management company, Viridor, operates the Ardley facility to the highest environmental, health and safety and quality standards as demonstrated by its ISO 14001, OHSA 18001 and ISO 9001 certifications respectively.
The Ardley landfill site is licensed to provide safe disposal for up to 450,000 tonnes of waste from local councils and businesses in the area each year.
