Cheshire Council Planning Department Refuses Permission for Viridor’s MBT Facility

Posted 18 Jun 2010

Viridor, one of the UK’s leading recycling, waste management and renewable energy companies, have today commented upon the refusal of planning permission for a proposed Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) Facility in Lostock by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Commenting on the decision, Symon Grasby, Viridor’s Planning Manager, said:
“Viridor is clearly disappointed with the decision made by Cheshire West and Chester Council to refuse planning permission for the facility at Lostock. The proposed plans underwent significant consultation efforts and were specifically designed to meet the needs of the Cheshire authorities.”

Viridor’s plans were developed in response to Cheshire West and Chester and Cheshire East Councils’ request to identify an alternative, sustainable waste treatment option for residual household waste.

In relation to further steps, Mr Grasby added:
“Viridor will await further notice of the reasons for the planning refusal and will reflect on this decision and our options in due course.”
