Materials Recycling Facilities (MRFs)
This video demonstrates how a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) is used to sort out the mixed dry-recyclables that residents and businesses segregate for recycling.
MRFs handle massive volumes of municipal materials and commercial and industrial material. A combination of advanced mechanical sorting techniques and manual quality control is used to separate the materials in readiness for recycling.
Viridor operates and continues to develop new MRFs across the UK.
- Masons MRF is a pioneering facility near Ipswich, which serves customers across East Anglia. Viridor and its customer The Suffork Recycling Consortium have been awarded ‘Beacon Status', by the Government for excellence in recycling services.
- Crayford MRF in Kent is one of the largest and most technologically advanced recycling facilities in Europe. A custom-built automated sorting system segregates many grades of paper, plastics and other materials for UK and global customers and achieves an average recycling rate of 95 per cent.
- More Viridor MRFs are located in Bristol, Plymouth, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Peterborough, London, Kent, Taunton, Somerset and Cornwall.
