Our proposals

The proposed Resource Recovery Centre facility will be constructed on part of the disused New England quarry, Lee Mill, near Ivybridge.

The site is allocated for development in the Waste Local Plan for Devon.

Energy from Waste (EfW)

The New England Resource Recovery proposals include an EfW facility capable of treating 275,000 tonnes of residual household and commercial waste a year, supplying 20MW of electricity to the National Grid.

There will also be an on-site bottom ash treatment and recycling facility producing approximately 62,500 tonnes a year of recycled aggregates for the local construction market

Non-hazardous landfill

A non-hazardous landfill will be part of the Resource Recovery Centre for waste unsuitable for either recycling or EfW processing - such as bulky or oversize commercial or household waste, road sweepings and any bottom ash from the EfW facility that cannot be recycled or sold.

Visitor and Education Centre

A dedicated visitor and education centre will support waste prevention and environmental education programmes for schools and residents.

Visitors will be able to learn about waste prevention, the importance of recycling, best practice in waste management and the role and function of EfW and landfill.

Interactive displays and activities will ensure the centre will provide teachers and lecturers with high quality environmental education opportunities and a ‘close-up' visitor experience.

Proposed operational hours

The EfW process will be continuous but waste deliveries and operation of the landfill will be limited to 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday including Bank Holidays, and 8am to 4pm on Sundays.
