Our proposals

The Trident Park facility will be designed predominantly to provide capacity for residual household waste with a proportion available for waste from local businesses.

Energy from Waste (EfW)

Waste brought to the facility will be burnt in a controlled process using the most up-to-date equipment, much like a conventional power station.

The proposed plant located at Trident Park, Cardiff between Ocean Way and the docks, will be able to process up to 350,000 tonnes of residual waste a year.

The facility will be able to supply around 30MW of electricity annually to the National Grid.

With the exception of scheduled maintenance periods, the plant will operate continuously.

As part of the planning submission, a heat plan has been developed. This looks at ideas for using excess heat from the facility, further improving the energy efficiency of the plant.

Businesses located nearby could benefit from the excess heat created by the site, making it a model of industrial sustainability, the first of its kind in Wales.

With the exception of scheduled maintenance periods, the facility will operate on a 24-hour basis throughout the year, with the majority of the deliveries taking place between 7am and 5pm.
