Viridor is proposing to build a state of the art Energy from Waste (EfW) plant on its existing landfill and recycling site just outside Ardley, north of Middleton Stoney.
Energy from Waste (EfW)
The proposed EfW facility will only process residual wastes from which the recyclable materials have been removed.
The capacity of the EfW will be 300,000 tonnes, supplying 24MW of electricity to the National Grid.
Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC)
The existing HWRC operates on a split level site with five skip bays at the lower operational area of the site and nine parking spaces on the upper public area.
As a result of the space that will be created by re-locating the landfill offices and weighbridge to the proposed new southern access, it is proposed to extend the HWRC to provide a further four skip bays and six additional parking spaces.
The extended, more efficient layout of the HWRC will provide a better service to the public and enable higher rates of waste recycling and recovery to be achieved.
Visitor and Education Centre
We are also planning to build an education and visitor centre for the benefit of the local and wider community. It will support the council’s aim to increase awareness of waste prevention and recycling in the county.
Proposed operational hours
The proposed EfW facility operation would be a 24 hour operation.
The hours of operation of the landfill will remain as permitted, as follows:
The hours of operation of the HWRC will also remain as currently permitted, which are:
