Environmental permit
In February 2009, Viridor submitted an application for an Environmental Permit, which would regulate the proposed EfW facility in Ardley.
The application, which has been submitted to the Environment Agency, combines information about pollution prevention and control alongside waste management licensing to ensure that the proposed facility complies with the strict regulations and standards set by the European Union.
The purpose of an Environmental Permit is to ensure the facility and any emissions are strictly monitored and controlled. The Environment Agency has powers of enforcement and adherence to environmental performance standards is described by the Environmental Permit.
