Viridor currently holds more than 90 Local Authority waste management contracts providing recycling, composting, Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) management, Energy from Waste (EfW) treatment, waste transfer operations and landfill disposal services.
In West Sussex, we work with a partnership of all the local councils in the area. Together we are committed to improving waste recycling facilities, and are working to achieve a target of 45% of household waste being recycled by 2015.
To meet the target, West Sussex needed to update existing and provide new recycling and waste facilities within the county.
Achievements to date include the opening of:
Construction of a further facility, a new HWRC in Worthing, will commence in 2010, followed by construction of the final site, a redeveloped transfer station and HWRC, at East Grinstead.

Viridor also holds waste collection and disposal contracts with five NHS trusts throughout the South West of England for the safe management of their clinical waste.
Viridor was involved in the development of Health and Safety Executive guidance to Local Authorities (LA’s) on procuring and managing waste services, which was launched in January 2010 following widespread consultation,
The guidance, which has legal standing, assists LA’s to discharge their legal responsibilities for managing health and safety in waste, recycling and associated environmental services and to improve health and safety performance.
Although primarily aimed at Local Authority contracts, the principles and legislation also apply to private sector waste and recycling contracts. As such, we work in partnership with all our clients to help implement the guidance and improve health and safety standards for the industry.
